Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a geotechnical engineer to join a diverse team working from conceptual design through to detail design on projects worldwide. The role involves specialised input in tailings, heap leach, water impoundments, soil mechanics and geosynthetics, with travel within the UK and abroad.

You will support project managers, prepare reports and cost estimates, and mentor graduate team members while upholding WSP's ethics, safety and equality policies.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified within civil engineering, geotechnical engineering or engineering geology, with a strong emphasis on soil mechanics.
• Knowledge of national and international design guidelines and regulations.
• Mining and geotechnical experience relating to mine waste disposal/facilities.
• Ability to interpret and monitor results and use tools to monitor and design geotechnical structures and assist clients with operational requirements.
• Theoretical and practical experience of project management and consultancy, including supporting client relationships, projects, and project teams.
• Ability to manage and work effectively within a team environment.
• Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally, and on occasion to remote environments.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists and modellers from conceptual design through to detail design and engineering.
• Provide specialised technical input focused on tailings management facilities, heap leach facilities, water impoundments and waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement methods, geosynthetic materials engineering and related civil engineering work for projects worldwide.
• Assist project managers in the successful delivery of projects by managing own involvement in projects, including time, budget and quality control.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, and cost estimates.
• Travel within the UK and internationally to assist clients in solving engineering problems and support construction of WSP designs.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with new and existing clients and be able to effectively represent WSP on site.
• Liaise with the Mining Team networks, which include specialists within WSP both nationally and internationally, and participate in Europe’s Mining Team meetings and calls as required.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to other team members of graduate level
• Assist others in carrying out business development activities including preparation of technical proposals
