Job summary

  • Degree qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Full membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., IEMA), with relevant chartered status.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel.
  • DBS check required before appointment.
  • Over 7 years of significant environmental and sustainability management experience in the construction industry on large infrastructure projects or equivalent, comparable industry/projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams in a complex matrix organization.
  • Project management and commercial/contract management experience required.

STRABAG - More than just a construction company

Reporting to the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) Senior Environment and Sustainability Manager, the main purpose of the role is to:

  • Manage all sustainability aspects of the HARP project in line with project requirements, the STRABAG management system, and strategy.
  • Oversee project-related sustainability requirements aligned with client and business needs.
  • Ensure delivery of projects in accordance with the STRABAG ESMS and Sustainability Strategy.
  • Allocate time for project visits, inspections, sharing best practices, and upskilling project teams.
  • Support project teams throughout the project lifecycle, including design, bidding, and delivery.
  • Maintain records to ensure compliance with legislation, STRABAG, and client requirements.
  • Assist the wider STRABAG business with knowledge sharing, bid support, and strategy development.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to adhere to ISO20400 principles.
  • Manage delivery of contracts in line with PAS2080.
  • Collect, compile, and report project-specific information to meet STRABAG KPIs and ISO certification requirements.
  • Support, mentor, and develop existing and new Environment & Sustainability team members.
  • Participate in working groups and forums as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Environment and Sustainability as required.
  • Review trends, develop improvement initiatives, and implement them.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with STRABAG policies and procedures.
