Job summary

The Wilf Ward Family Trust is seeking a part-time Complex Care Support Worker in Whitby. You will provide 1:1 support to three individuals with complex health needs and learning disabilities, promoting independence and wellbeing in a home-like environment.

Shifts include day and waking nights, with weekend work. You will work closely with families and healthcare professionals to deliver person-centred care and maintain high standards of safety and dignity.

About the Service

Stakesby Road provides a supportive and nurturing home environment where individuals receive the care, attention and encouragement they need to live fulfilling lives.

The home has three bedrooms, each personalised to individual tastes and preferences, alongside a communal bathroom, open-plan kitchen and dining area, spacious living room and a secure garden with different areas for relaxation and activities.

The home is fully accessible, with ramps, wide doorways and adapted bathrooms, alongside assistive technology to support independence and enhance quality of care.

Stakesby Road is ideally situated close to local shops and parks and within walking distance of the beach.

Shift Patterns

Round-the-clock support is required, with shifts including:

• Day shifts between 7:30am and 9:30pm
• Waking nights: 9:30pm to 7:30am
• Weekend working

About the Individuals

Each individual has a personalised care plan developed with healthcare professionals, family members and the individual themselves. These plans reflect their needs, choices, preferences, dreams and goals.

All three individuals are non-verbal and non-mobile and require full support with everyday tasks and personal care. They communicate their choices and preferences through a range of communication tools, so staff need to be patient, observant and willing to learn how each person communicates.

Each individual has their own unique personality and interests. One enjoys The Jungle Book and throwing games, while two enjoy a variety of music, from George Ezra to ABBA and S Club 7. One individual is very sociable and enjoys spending time with family and friends, tea, cake and a sing-along, while another prefers quieter environments and 1:1 time.

Staff will support individuals with personal care, medication, healthcare appointments, mobility and transfers, daily routines, outings and social activities, while promoting choice, independence, dignity and wellbeing.

About the Role

As a Complex Care Support Worker, you will provide high-quality 1:1 support, helping each individual to live as independently and meaningfully as possible.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting and continence support
• Preparing meals and supporting nutritional needs
• Monitoring, recording and safely administering medication
• Supporting mobility, transfers and the safe use of equipment
• Following individual care plans and communication methods
• Supporting healthcare appointments and regular reviews
• Accompanying individuals on outings and activities such as shopping, cinema trips, eating out, arts and crafts and swimming
• Supporting social interaction, family involvement and community engagement
• Promoting dignity, choice, independence and person-centred care
