Job summary

Milewood Healthcare Ltd is seeking compassionate Support Workers in Stockton-on-Tees. Role involves 1:1 support for a young man with autism, learning disabilities and epilepsy, with full-time or part-time hours and a requirement for a full UK driving licence.

About the Role

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to provide 1:1 support for a young gentleman, who is taking the next step and moving into his own supported living home, He is 18yrs old soon to be 19 and is very much looking forward to the next chapter in maintaining his independence and fulfilling his life. He has complex needs including autism, learning disabilities, and epilepsy.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in his life by supporting him with this transition into his new home.

This is an exciting time for him, but also an anxious time for him and his family, so he is looking for calm, positive individuals who are confident but not overly loud or demanding. He benefits from structure, reassurance, and consistency

About Him

He is a young man with limited speech who communicates using his own signs and visual prompts, which you will get to know as you develop your relationship with him

When anxious, he may withdraw (e.g. crouching or hiding his face), become tearful, or display repetitive speech. At times, he may exhibit behaviours such as throwing objects, hair pulling, or lashing out.

When he is happy, he is smiley and relaxed, he likes to go out for drives or nice walks and on occasion likes to go swimming, so someone who can get involved and encourage these activities would be a bonus. He also has a passion for music, so again anyone musical would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide person centred and tailored support based on his individual needs and routines
• Support in communication using visual cues and non-verbal methods
• Assist with daily living tasks when needed, this will include prompting personal care, support when dressing, and meal preparation
• Alway ensure he is safe, particularly during bathing due to epilepsy
• Provide him with emotional support and the ability to respond appropriately to changes in his moods
• Encourage and support activities such as walks, drives, and swimming
• Maintain a calm and structured environment
