Job summary

Real Life Options is seeking a Female Support Worker to join our rural Durham service. You will support four individuals with autism and complex needs, helping them live independently with dignity.

The role requires empathy, reliability, and strong communication. Flexible, part-time hours (approx 30 per week) and full training are provided, with DBS checks and a supportive team.

Female Support Worker

Edmondsley, Durham (DH7)
£12.71 per hour
Part time 30hoursper week must be fully flexible

Shift patterns:
  • 8:00am – 8:30pm
  • 3:00pm – 8:30pm
  • Optional double-up shifts (10:00am – 3/4:00pm – flexible depending on availability)

About the Role

You’ll be supporting four individuals, three of whom have autism, within a small supported living service in a rural setting near Durham.

Experience with complex needs and alternative communication methods would be beneficial.

You may support individuals with:
  • Autism
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Behaviours of concern
What a Typical Day Looks Like

You’ll support individuals with daily activities while promoting independence and choice, including:

  • Personal care
  • Cooking & meal preparation
  • Shopping & finances
  • Household tasks

You’ll also help people enjoy life through activities such as:

  • Walks in quiet locations
  • Day trips (e.g. coast)
  • Arts & crafts
  • Cinema, bowling & baking
  • Music & relaxation
Location & Travel

This is a rural service (5 miles from Durham city centre).

  • Bus access available (Routes 56, X78, 3)
  • Earliest arrival needed: 8:00am
  • Own transport is beneficial
