Job summary

Dignus Group provides specialist, nurturing homes for young people aged 14-18 with autism, learning disabilities and additional complex needs. This Support Worker role focuses on safety, development and personal growth within a 24/7 residential setting.

You will work as part of a dedicated team to build trust, support daily living skills, and help young people achieve their goals while following care plans and safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children and young people in residential care.
• Genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes.
• Understand safeguarding and following care plans and risk assessments.
• Good communication and teamwork with families and professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, caring and child-centred support in line with each young person's care and support plans.
• Build positive relationships and create a nurturing environment where young people feel secure.
• Support 1:1 with challenges, developing confidence and independence.
• Assist with everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and personal development.
• Encourage access to activities, education and opportunities in the local community.
• Support development of independent living skills.
• Provide emotional support during difficult times and promote wellbeing.
• Use positive, relationship-based approaches to support behaviour and self-control.
• Promote physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and encourage appointments with health services.
• Assist with decisions about care plans and future goals, and coordinate with professionals.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate concerns promptly.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and respond to welfare or safety concerns.
• Support young people during activities, appointments and travel to other locations.

Luciana, part of the Dignus Group, provide specialist, nurturing homes for children and young people aged 14-18 with autism, Learning disabilities and additional complex needs.

We're looking for Support Workers to join our residential children's service, where you'll play an important role in creating a safe, stable and nurturing home environment.

As a Support Worker, you'll work as part of a dedicated team to provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people, helping them feel safe, valued and listened to. You'll build positive relationships, support their development and encourage them to achieve their goals and reach their potential.

What will you be doing:

As a Support Worker, you will:

• Provide safe, caring and child-centred support in line with each young person's individual care and support plans.
• Build positive, trusting relationships and provide a nurturing environment where young people feel secure and valued.
• Support young people on a 1:1 basis, helping them work through challenges and develop confidence and independence.
• Support with everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and personal development.
• Encourage young people to access activities, education, training and opportunities within their local community.
• Support young people to develop the skills they need to live more independently.
• Provide emotional support during difficult or challenging times.
• Use positive, relationship-based approaches to support behaviour and help young people develop self-control and positive behaviours.
• Promote the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of the young people in your care.
• Support young people to attend appointments and access appropriate health services.
• Encourage young people to have a voice in decisions about their care, plans and future.
• Work closely with families, social workers, education and health professionals and other agencies involved in the young person's care.
• Maintain accurate records, care notes and reports and communicate any changes or concerns appropriately.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and respond promptly to any concerns relating to the welfare or safety of a young person.
• Support young people during activities, appointments, transitions and, where required, travel to other locations.

Working pattern:

This is a 24/7 residential service, and we offer both day and night shift opportunities.

• Day shifts: Shifts operate between 7:00am and 10:00pm
• Night shifts: 10:00pm to 7:00am
• You will work on a rota basis, including weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.

What we're looking for:

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience working with children and young people in a residential care setting.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people and helping them achieve positive outcomes.
• A caring, patient and resilient approach, particularly when supporting young people through challenging situations.
• Experience of building positive and professional relationships with children and young people.
• An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of following care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, families and other professionals.
• A reliable and consistent approach to supporting young people.
• The ability to work as part of a team and contribute positively to the home environment.
• A willingness to learn, develop and complete all training required for the role.
• An NVQ Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People's Residential Care is desirable.
