Job summary

Flexzo Teach in Scunthorpe is seeking a dedicated Support Mentor to join local schools directly, delivering tailored activities and behavioural support. You will register and set your rate, then connect with schools seeking short-term or long-term classroom support.

You will work closely with session leaders, act as a positive role model, apply trauma-informed strategies, and help students stay motivated while building essential life skills. This is a flexible, empowering education role.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Support Mentor in an Alternative Provision setting, you will play a vital role in guiding students who require tailored educational and emotional pathways. You will:

• Work closely with session leaders to deliver impactful learning activities, ensuring resources are accessible and tailored to individual student needs.
• Act as a trusted, positive role model, offering a safe space for students to talk, share concerns, and feel heard.
• Implement trauma-informed and positive behavior support strategies to help students navigate stress, anxiety, or frustration in real-time.
• Keep students motivated and focused on their tasks using creative, personalized encouragement and a high level of resilience.
• Help young people close learning gaps while simultaneously building essential life skills, teamwork, and social confidence.

What you’ll need:

• Previous mentor experience, youth work experience, or a strong relevant background supporting young people with complex needs (e.g., SEMH, SEND).
• Right to work in the UK.
• An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to obtain one).
• A Level 3 qualification, relevant youth work/mentoring certifications, or equivalent hands‑on experience in an educational or care setting.
