Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment is partnering with a specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon, seeking a practical Multi-Trades Teacher or Tutor to inspire students aged 11–19 with hands-on trade skills.

The role welcomes experienced tradespeople or former teachers, with a focus on safety, employability and real-world relevance; teaching experience is helpful but not essential, and a full UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in one or more trades, with hands-on practical skills.
• Experience teaching or working with young people is a plus but not required.
• Relevant trade qualifications or significant industry experience preferred.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle required.

Are you a skilled tradesperson looking for a rewarding new challenge?

Luma Education Recruitment is working with an excellent specialist education setting in Totnes that is looking for a practical, engaging and enthusiastic Multi-Trades Teacher or Tutor.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone from a construction or trade background to pass on their knowledge and practical skills to young people aged 11-19.

We are keen to hear from people with experience in a range of trades, including:

• Carpentry and joinery
• Plumbing
• Electrical
• Brickwork
• Plastering
• Construction
• Motor vehicle or engineering
• General building or other practical trades

Teaching experience would be ideal, but it is not essential. We would also love to hear from experienced tradespeople who have worked with young people in any capacity, whether in a school, college, training provider, apprenticeship setting, youth work or similar environment.

The Role

You will deliver practical, engaging vocational learning, helping young people develop valuable trade skills, confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards work.

You will work with pupils with additional needs, including SEND, SEMH and autism, so the ability to build positive relationships, remain calm and adapt your approach is essential.

The role will include:

• Delivering practical learning across one or more trade areas
• Supporting young people to develop employability and life skills
• Creating a safe, engaging and well‑organised workshop environment
• Promoting safe working practices and health and safetySupporting pupils with behaviour, engagement and confidence
• Helping young people prepare for further education, apprenticeships and employment
• Working closely with a supportive wider education team

The Ideal Candidate

You could be an experienced Teacher, Tutor, Lecturer, Assessor, Trainer or Instructor.

Alternatively, you may be an experienced tradesperson who is interested in moving into education and has some experience working with children or young people.

Relevant trade qualifications and/or significant industry experience would be highly beneficial. A teaching, training or assessor qualification would be welcomed but is not essential.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required.

This is a genuinely rewarding opportunity to use your practical skills and experience to engage young people who may not thrive in a traditional classroom environment.
