Job summary

Leonardo S.p.A. in Edinburgh offers a 13-week Summer Placement in Materials Engineering. You will work in the Materials Testing Laboratory, gaining hands-on experience in material characterisation and failure analysis on components and hardware, including additively manufactured metals.

You’ll learn from seasoned engineers and be involved in project tasks that develop your technical and soft skills. The role supports the Materials & Processes Department and provides insights into aerospace

Qualifications

• Be enrolled on a Bachelor’s/Integrated Masters degree from an accredited degree course.
• Relevant engineering or science work experience, such as summer placements or internships.
• Experience with technical writing and project planning.

Responsibilities

• Be immersed in a busy materials laboratory environment, gaining practical experience across material characterisation and testing activities.
• Contribute directly to cutting-edge failure analysis on materials, components and hardware.
• Develop sample preparation techniques and document new laboratory processes.
• Work alongside engineers and scientists to understand how materials influence performance, safety and reliability.
