Job summary

SSE is seeking a Technical Services Field Technician to join our team across the North of Scotland, with base flexible in Scotland. The role focuses on protection, control and SCADA systems within substations, providing installation, testing and commissioning support across the network.

You will travel across the network, perform live-system work, and work closely with Protection/SCADA Engineers to ensure safe, reliable operation and timely fault response.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical qualification or equivalent experience in electrical installation, panel wiring or control systems.
• Strong practical experience in electrical installation and panel wiring, ideally in substation, industrial, protection, control, SCADA or automation environments.
• Experience working on Protection, Control and/or SCADA systems with knowledge of secondary wiring and control circuits.
• Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and cable schedules on live LV AC/DC systems.
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel across the network area.

Responsibilities

• Carry out installation and modification works on Protection, Control and SCADA systems within substations, including panel wiring and related secondary systems.
• Support testing, commissioning and fault-finding activities under guidance of engineers.
• Assist with refurbishment, maintenance and upgrade activities on protection relays and RTU/SCADA equipment.
• Read schematic diagrams and cable schedules to safely deliver work on live systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, project teams, contractors and staff to support project delivery and fault response.
