Job summary

SSEN Distribution, part of SSE plc, seeks a Technical Services Field Technician to support Protection, Control and SCADA systems across the network. This is a hands-on, site-based role with travel to substations and depots throughout the North of Scotland.

You will install, modify, test, fault-find and commission protection and control equipment, read schematics, and work closely with engineers to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical qualification or equivalent experience in electrical installation, panel wiring or control systems.
• Strong practical experience in electrical installation and panel wiring, preferably within substations or automation environments.
• Experience with Protection, Control and/or SCADA systems and understanding of secondary wiring and control circuits.
• Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams, with experience working on live LV AC/DC systems.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the network area.

Responsibilities

• Carry out installation and modification works on Protection, Control and SCADA systems within substations, including panel wiring and associated secondary systems.
• Support testing, commissioning and fault-finding activities on protection and control systems under guidance of Engineers.
• Assist with refurbishment, maintenance and upgrade activities on protection relays, RTU/SCADA equipment and related systems.
• Read and interpret schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and cable schedules to deliver work safely on live LV AC and DC systems.
• Work with engineers and project teams to support delivery and operational fault response across the network.
