Job summary

Rolls‑Royce is seeking a Software/Hardware Integration Engineer for the Submarines programme. Based in the Derby/Raynesway area, you will join the Dreadnought team to integrate, verify and validate complex systems combining software, FPGA and hardware components.

You’ll develop test plans, LRUs, and automated FPGA tests, perform failure investigations and ensure traceability to design requirements, while collaborating across software, systems, hardware and safety groups.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in software/electronics engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA).
• Experience integrating complex electronic products, fault finding and diagnosis.
• Awareness of safety-critical development constraints (IEC62566).
• Experience in timing analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop test documentation, including test plans, procedures, reports and automated test scripts.
• Develop test equipment solutions and conduct LRU level testing across a range of functionality and environmental tests.
• Develop automated testing procedures for FPGA designs and support detailed integration testing against DOORS requirements.
• Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis, applying structured problem-solving techniques.
• Ensure adherence to change control, configuration management and established development processes, demonstrating solution correctness and traceability to design requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing cost and timescales while improving quality.
• Support process and technical audits, product design reviews and verification activities.
• Liaise closely with software, systems, hardware, programmable hardware (FPGA) and safety teams to deliver integrated solutions.
