Job summary

Metlen seeks a Subcontracts Supervisor to join the EGL1 Contracts & Commercial department within the Thermal Power & HVDC division, based in Newcastle. The role focuses on drafting, negotiating, and administering subcontracts to optimize commercial outcomes and ensure project compliance.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years in contracts management for EPC/construction/energy projects, with strong NEC/FIDIC experience, and the ability to manage multiple interfaces across multinational teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Law, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and administer subcontracts.
  • Manage claims, variations, and dispute resolution.
  • Monitor contract performance and ensure compliance and deliverables.
  • Support contract execution and close-out processes with leadership.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Legal teams.
  • Act as main point of contact for contractual matters.
  • Lead supplier evaluations and favourable term negotiations with PM and procurement teams.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, FIDIC, or equivalent.

Job description

We are currently looking for aSubcontractsSupervisorto join our EGL1Contracts & Commercialdepartment as part of the Thermal Power & HVDC division ofMetlenEnergy & Metals, based in Newcastle.

The role involves drafting, negotiating, and administering contracts to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and maximize commercial benefits throughout the project lifecycle.

Managing schedule performance,progressand progress measurement from a Quantitative and Qualitive view.

Ability to manage multiple and multidiscipline contracts and work with site teams to control interfaces.

In cooperation withlegalteam, ensure contractscomply withlegal and regulatory requirements in the energy sector.

SupportSeniorProject Leadershipteamonmanaging contract execution, amendments, and close-out processes.

Identifyand mitigate contractual risks to prevent disputes and financial losses.

Support internal teams in monitoring contract performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, timelines, and deliverables.

Handle claims, variations, and dispute resolution processes effectively in cooperation withSeniorProject Leadershipteam.

Act as the key point of contact for contractual matters with internal teams.

Participate in negotiations with contractorsandsuppliers supporting PM and procurement/construction teams to securefavourableterms.

Support commercial and procurement teams in supplier evaluations and selection processes.

What you bring to the role:

Bachelor’s degree inEngineering, Law, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’sdegree is considered an asset).

Minimum5–10years of experienceincontractsmanagement withinEPC / construction / energy / infrastructure projects, with a strong focus onsubcontractor (downstream) contracts.

Proven experience indrafting, negotiating, and administering subcontracts, including handlingvariations, claims, and dispute resolution.

Solid understanding ofcontractual frameworks(e.g.NEC,FIDIC or equivalent) and commercial terms in large-scale projects.

Demonstrated ability to manage thefull subcontract lifecycle, from tendering and award through to close-out.

Strong knowledge ofcommercial risk management, cost control principles, and contractual entitlements.

Experience working inmultinational, cross-functional project environments, collaborating with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Legal teams.

Excellentnegotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Ability tooperateinfast-paced, site-based environmentswith multiple subcontractors and tight deadlines.

Proficiencyincontract management systems and MS Office tools(experience with ERP systems is an asset).

Fluency inEnglish(additionallanguages are a plus depending on project location).
