Job summary

HS2 project vacancy via Balfour Beatty VINCI: Sub-contractor Manager based in Birmingham, responsible for organising timely delivery of precast elements to site, managing subcontractors and suppliers, and reporting progress to ensure on-time delivery of a major UK infrastructure programme.

The role requires an Engineering degree, at least 5 years in construction, and proven subcontractor management experience.

• Proven experience in managing subcontractors and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Organise timely delivery to site of defined products.
• Report subcontractors and suppliers progress and any changes that may affect the delivery requirements of the sublots.
• Arrange deliveries of the required elements to the individual sublots as and when required.
• Approve and ensure the timely and accurate issuance of progress reports for the manufacturing and delivery of the elements and the programme for manufacturing and delivery.
• Monitor and report the performance and progress of the delivery of the elements and ensure work complies with contract requirements.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

The Sub-contractor Manager is responsible for organising the timely delivery to site of the defined products

The Sub-contractor Manager is responsible for the reporting of the sub-contractors and suppliers progress and any changes that may affect the delivery requirements of the sublots. The Sub-contractor Manager is responsible for arranging deliveries of the required elements to the individual sublots as and when required.

The sublot managers are responsible for the installation of the elements (including their cost impact).

• They shall be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that the suppliers are adhering to the outlined strategy and programme for the delivery of the elements,
  • The timely and efficient delivery to site,
  • Ensuring that the elements delivered to site are to the pre-defined standards and quality that are applicable to the work.
• They shall be responsible for preparing the following documents:
  • Non-Conformance Reports,
  • Meeting minutes and reports from meetings with the sub-contractor or supplier,
  • Delivery instructions to the sub-contractor or supplier.
  • Early Warnings
  • Updating the delivery plan for the sub-contractor or supplier
• They shall be responsible to approve and ensure the timely and accurate issuance of the following documents:
  • Progress reports for the manufacturing and delivery of the elements,
  • Programme for manufacturing and delivery of the elements.
• Reporting any changes to above mentioned strategies to the Head of Precast,
• Supporting the commercial department in arriving at monthly valuations when applications have been received from sub-contractors or suppliers,
• Supporting operational and commercial audits of sub-contractors or suppliers,
• Ensure safety on their sites,
• Management of the suppliers and transporters,
• Monitor and report the performance and progress of the delivery of the elements,
• Ensure that the work complies with the requirements of the contracts,
• Liaise with nominated interfaces,
• Ensure the correct allocation of priorities and resources by suppliers and sub-contractors to the sublots,
• Engineering Degree holder,
• At least 5-year experience in the construction industry,
• Experience in managing site call offs / requirements
• Proven experience in managing subcontractors and suppliers.
