Job summary

Balfour Beatty VINCI is delivering critical infrastructure on HS2 in the Midlands. This role is based in Birmingham and focuses on leading safety, coordinating multi-discipline teams and ensuring project milestones are met on site.

You will supervise direct labour, agency workers and subcontractors, review RAMS, and maintain quality records while upholding CDM regulations. We value strong leadership, clear communication and practical understanding of civil construction methods.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
• Previous experience as a General Foreperson, Foreperson or Site Supervisor.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods and site operations.
• Experience managing subcontractors and direct labour.
• Good understanding of health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location

Central Region: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead by example in promoting a positive safety culture.
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with BBV and HS2 health and safety procedures.
• Deliver daily briefings, task briefings and toolbox talks.
• Review and implement RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).
• Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
• Monitor workforce competence, permits, and safe systems of work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
• Supervise and coordinate direct labour, agency workers and subcontractors.
• Plan and organise daily activities to achieve programme milestones.
• Ensure labour, plant, materials and equipment are available and utilised effectively.
• Coordinate interfaces between multiple disciplines and work packages.
• Monitor site productivity and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Manage temporary works and ensure compliance with approved designs and procedures.
• Quality Assurance Ensure works are delivered in accordance with specifications, drawings and inspection test plans (ITPs).
• Complete quality inspections and sign-offs as required.
• Resolve site quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records of completed works.
