Job summary

Balfour Beatty VINCI is seeking a Sub Agent to lead planning and oversee delivery of complex works from Birmingham Central Region. You will manage site activities, mentor the team and coordinate subcontractors to meet project milestones.

The role requires an engineering degree or equivalent, strong communication, and robust knowledge of safety, CDM 2015, and NEC contract practices. Flexible working options and site-based duties are provided.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location

Central Region: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the preparation and planning for the delivery of the works, including resources, logistics, access, and construction readiness documentation.
• Manage, coordinate, and supervise the day-to-day site activities from construction through to close out and ensure the works are performed to the contract requirements.
• Manage, supervise, train and mentor the site team members to maintain high levels of operational control and support their professional development.
• Oversee the site supervision including subcontractors’ performance and make sure alignment with project objectives and milestones
• Manage the internal and external interfaces with regards to the execution of the works, ensuring effective communication and coordination
• Advise and assist the commercial team in the preparation of all necessary contractual notices and instructions (under NEC contract)
• Review, approve and manage the correct implementation of Method Statements Risk Assessments, and undertake periodic reviews.
• Prepare Temporary Works Design Briefs and Coordinate Temporary Works on site
• Carry out Site Induction, Site Orientation and support incident investigations / accident review /near misses investigations under the guidance of the Health & Safety team.
• Ensure site inductions and orientations are undertaken for all persons working on or visiting the works. Delivering toolbox talks and ensuring understanding of content by those being briefed.
• Engineering Degree holder, or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth
• Proven experience in managing subcontractors and working with a major contractor
• Excellent team player and team leader, reporting progress to the Project Manager / Construction Manager.
• Highly organised with good management and coordination skills
• Strong on technical details and with good communication skills
• Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and current legislation and standards associated with all engineering aspects
