Job summary

VolkerWessels UK Limited's VolkerStevin division is seeking a Sub Agent to lead civil, structural and electrical interface works on a major National Grid substation project near Chesterfield. You will work with the Project Manager and Site Agent, directing engineers, supervisors, and supply chain partners to deliver to programme, budget and quality, while ensuring safety and compliance on site.

A Degree or equivalent qualification, SMSTS, CSCS, and Temporary Works qualifications are required,

Qualifications

• A Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or similar role within major infrastructure, utilities or energy projects.
• SMSTS certification and CSCS or EUSR CSCS management card are required.
• Temporary Works Supervisor competence and First Aid at Work qualification are preferred.
• Experience managing programmes, RAMS, ITPs, subcontractors and project change.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineers, supervisors and supply chain partners to deliver complex civil, structural and electrical interface works to programme, budget and quality expectations.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager and Site Agent to ensure safe, compliant and timely project delivery.
• Manage RAMS, ITPs, subcontractor performance and changes while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Working alongside the Project Manager and Site Agent, you'll lead engineers, supervisors and supply chain partners to safely deliver complex civil, structural and electrical interface works to programme, budget and quality expectations.

About you

We're looking for a proactive and collaborative construction professional who thrives in a fast‑paced project environment and enjoys leading teams to achieve exceptional results.

• A Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.


• Proven experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or similar role within major infrastructure, utilities or energy projects.


• SMSTS certification.


• Relevant CSCS or EUSR CSCS management card.


• Temporary Works Supervisor competence.


• First Aid at Work qualification (or equivalent).


• Strong experience managing programmes, RAMS, ITPs, subcontractors and project change.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

• Experience working on National Grid or high‑voltage substation projects.


• Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and compensation event processes.


• Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.


• Experience managing lifting operations.


• Experience delivering projects within live operational environments and planned outage programmes.
