Job summary

VolkerStevin, part of VolkerWessels UK, is recruiting a Sub Agent to take ownership of critical work packages on a major National Grid substation project. You will lead teams, manage programmes, RAMS, ITPs, and subcontractors to ensure on-time delivery and safety.

We value proactive, collaborative construction professionals with experience in major infrastructure projects and a commitment to high-quality results, within a live operational environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelors/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent is required.
• SMSTS certification and CSCS management card are essential.
• Temporary Works Supervisor competence is required.
• First Aid at Work qualification is recommended.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of key work packages on major National Grid substations.
• Lead teams in a fast-paced project environment to deliver exceptional results.
• Manage programmes, RAMS, ITPs, and subcontractors.
• Oversee change control and ensure compliance with NEC3/NEC4 where applicable.
• Coordinate lifting operations and site safety requirements.

As our portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for a motivated Sub Agent to join our team and help deliver a major National Grid substation project. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of key work packages on high-profile schemes that will help power communities and businesses for generations to come.

About you

We're looking for a proactive and collaborative construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced project environment and enjoys leading teams to achieve exceptional results.

You’ll bring:

• A Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or similar role within major infrastructure, utilities or energy projects.
• SMSTS certification.
• Relevant CSCS or EUSR CSCS management card.
• Temporary Works Supervisor competence.
• First Aid at Work qualification (or equivalent).
• Strong experience managing programmes, RAMS, ITPs, subcontractors and project change.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

• Experience working on National Grid or high-voltage substation projects.
• Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and compensation event processes.
• Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.
• Experience managing lifting operations.
• Experience delivering projects within live operational environments and planned outage programmes.
