Job summary

Craven College is seeking a Student Welfare Mentor to provide social and emotional support to students at the Aviation Academy based airside at Leeds Bradford Airport. You will deliver 1:1 and group sessions, helping students overcome barriers to learning and promote wellbeing.

The role focuses on safeguarding, attendance, personal development and collaboration with teachers and external agencies. Term time only; pro rata salary shown; commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable

Qualifications

• Relevant Level 3 qualification in learning support or counselling.
• Minimum Level 2 in English and Maths.
• Commitment to safeguarding and wellbeing training.
• Experience of working with young people.
• Experience in a student-centred environment.
• Experience working with multiple agencies and professionals to support positive outcomes.
• Understanding of issues facing young people and barriers to education.
• Knowledge of safeguarding in education settings and handling confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Provide pastoral, wellbeing and safeguarding support to students, helping them overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
• Manage a caseload of students, reviewing safeguarding and mentoring referrals, assessing needs and signposting to internal/external support services.
• Deliver individual and group sessions focused on attendance, wellbeing, resilience and engagement, with parents and staff as required.
• Act as a key contact for students, curriculum teams and external agencies, coordinating multi‑agency meetings and interventions.
• Support vulnerable and at‑risk students, including SEMH needs, LAC and Care Leavers, with appropriate plans in place.
• Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance and engagement within an inclusive college environment.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records relating to welfare and interventions using college systems.
• Assist students in accessing financial support, bursaries and practical help to remove participation barriers.
