Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer for a secondary school in Bolton. The role focuses on supporting students with pastoral and wellbeing needs, building positive relationships with pupils, families and staff, and contributing to individual support plans.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience in a pastoral, youth work, education or support role is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students.
• Build positive and professional relationships with pupils.
• Identify students who may require additional support.
• Monitor attendance, behaviour and engagement.
• Follow up concerns raised by teaching staff.
• Support students experiencing difficulties with school attendance.
• Help students develop positive routines and organisational skills.
• Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour.
• Provide one-to-one support where appropriate.
• Contribute to individual student support plans.
• Monitor agreed actions and report progress.
• Communicate with parents and carers.
• Work closely with tutors, teachers and pastoral leaders.
• Liaise with safeguarding colleagues when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of pastoral interventions.
• Support behaviour and attendance initiatives.
• Help resolve low-level pastoral concerns before they escalated.
• Participate in meetings relating to student support.
• Promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships.
• Contribute to the wider wellbeing culture of the school.
