Job summary

Pastoral Support Officer – Secondary School in Plymouth is seeking a committed, approachable candidate to join the student support team on a full‑time, permanent basis. The role focuses on supporting students' academic progress, wellbeing, attendance and wider development.

You will work with teachers, pastoral leaders and families to help pupils feel safe, engaged and able to participate fully in school life.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people, ideally in a school or similar setting.
• Experience in pastoral support, behaviour/attendance and student welfare is advantageous.
• Confident in communicating with students of diverse ages and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students across the school.
• Build positive, professional relationships and encourage constructive choices.
• Identify students who may require additional pastoral intervention.
• Support students with attendance, behaviour, engagement or organisation.
• Collaborate with Heads of Year and pastoral leaders to implement support strategies.
• Monitor progress from a pastoral perspective and contribute to reviews.
• Communicate with parents/carers regarding pastoral concerns.
