Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer for a Secondary School in Luton to join the student support team. The role focuses on helping students overcome barriers affecting attendance, behaviour, organisation and engagement, in collaboration with families and staff.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support, monitor progress, and work with teachers, tutors and safeguarding staff to implement effective interventions and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience in pastoral support, education, youth work or related environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build trust with students.
• Calm and patient approach.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
• Experience communicating with parents and carers.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students.
• Build positive professional relationships with pupils.
• Identify students requiring additional support.
• Monitor attendance and engagement.
• Monitor behaviour and pastoral concerns.
• Provide one-to-one support where appropriate.
• Support students with organisation and routines.
• Help students develop positive attitudes towards learning.
• Contribute to individual support plans.
• Monitor student targets and interventions.
• Communicate with parents and carers.
• Work closely with tutors and teachers.
• Liaise with pastoral and safeguarding teams.
• Support behaviour and attendance initiatives.
• Contribute to meetings relating to student support.
• Follow up agreed actions.
• Identify concerns and elevate them appropriately.
• Promote positive relationships and inclusion.
• Support the wider wellbeing provision of the school.
