Job summary

Middlesbrough College is seeking a Student Support Mentor – Health & Care to help learners overcome challenges, build confidence and achieve success.

You will work with students requiring additional academic, wellbeing or study support, delivering tailored interventions to help them stay engaged and reach their potential. This role is part of the Nursing and Midwifery department and supports a wide range of learners across 37 hours per week during term-time.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in supporting students with learning difficulties/care.
  • Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory training relevant to the role.
  • Risk Assessment qualification – Desirable.
  • First Aid qualification – Desirable.

Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the Curriculum area and have an input into identifying student needs, planning and implementing strategies, coaching and intervention to support student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
  • To plan and deliver a range of targeted interventions, utilising vocationally specific specialist knowledge from teaching staff where appropriate.
  • To attend ‘At Risk’ meetings, and other departmental meetings necessary, providing feedback and insight into the progress of students and success of intervention.
  • To liaise with teaching staff to ensure the best possible service is provided to the student(s) and that practices implemented are in line with college policies and procedures.
  • To encourage the student(s) to develop independent learning and study skills.
