Job summary

The Warwick College Group is seeking a Specialist Learning Mentor - Mental Health to provide individual support to identified students on a one-to-one basis within their learning programme and help them towards being independent learners. You will mentor outside the classroom, support strategies, and record progress with attendance and targets.

You will update reports, liaise with tutors and parents where appropriate, and undertake required training, including Team-teach.

Qualifications

• Qualification relevant to Mental Health at Level 2 minimum.
• GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or Level 2 Equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience of supporting young people with Mental Health Issues.

Responsibilities

• Assist the class lecturer with proposed strategies to support the identified students.
• Actively promote and support independent learning.
• Update Inclusion Reports and contribute to student EHCP Annual Reviews and targets.
• Monitor targets with tutors and Head of Inclusion.
• Communicate progress with the curriculum area and personal tutor.
• Make contact with parents by telephone or written communication where appropriate.
• Act as a troubleshooter to help students meet deadlines and catch up on work.
• Attend Academy and Inclusion Team meetings and undertake training as required.
• Develop resources for students and disseminate to staff.

Job description

The role of the Specialist Learning Mentor - Mental Health is to provide individual, personal support to identified students on a one-to-one basis within their learning programme and help them towards being independent learners. The majority of your time will be spent with identified students in a 1-1 mentoring situation. This could be Face-Face, via Google Meet, email or phone call. Occasionally you may be required to support in class. There will be a requirement to undertake administrative tasks, for example, recording student progress, attendance and supporting student retention and achievement. This post reports directly to the Head of Inclusion DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide mentoring support outside the classroom (occasionally, in-class) or as directed by the Head of Inclusion for identified students.
• To assist the class lecturer with proposed strategies to support the identified students.
• To actively promote and support independent learning.
• To update Inclusion Reports, Pro-Monitor and contribute to student EHCP Annual Reviews and targets.
• To work closely with the academic tutor, Curriculum Learning Officer and Head of Inclusion to ensure that the identified students' targets are being monitored and reviewed.
• To inform and maintain regular communication concerning student progress with the identified student's curriculum area, including personal tutor and Curriculum Learning Officer.
• With knowledge and permission from the personal tutor or Curriculum Learning Officer, or Head of Inclusion, to make contact with parents, either by telephone or in writing where appropriate.
• To act as a trouble-shooter and work with the students to ensure they meet deadlines and catch-up on any missed work.
• To attend Academy and Inclusion Team meetings as required.
• To undertake training and development as required including Team-teach.
• To undertake administrative duties which will include keeping student records, completing cause for concern forms, and updating tutors with student progress, for example.
• To develop resources which can be used with students and disseminated to staff throughout the WCG.
• Work collaboratively with College staff to produce Individual Risk Assessment, Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and Medical Protocols.
• To attend and actively take part in team meetings.
• To contribute to student reports and reviews.
• To attend college delivered 'Teaching Essentials' training

  A qualification relevant to Mental Health at Level 2 minimum.

  This role is pro rata so the salary you will be receiving is £14,120.64 - £14,792.16 per annum. For any roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months.
