Job summary

Whitley Bay High School is seeking a Student Support Assistant to join the Learning Support Department. The role supports students who need extra help to access the curriculum, both in class and in small intervention groups, liaising with subject teachers.

Many students are on the SEN Register with diverse profiles, and the post includes accompanying students on educational visits and contributing to extracurricular life.

Qualifications

• Good humoured, resilient and enjoy working with young people aged 13-18.
• Ability to liaise closely with subject teachers.

Responsibilities

• Support students who need extra help to access the curriculum in the classroom and in smaller intervention groups.
• Assist during exams and accompany students on educational visits.
• Participate in weekly training programme alongside teachers and classroom-based staff.

Job description

We require a Student Support Assistant to join our Learning Support Department as soon as possible.

The purpose of the role is to support students who need extra help toaccess the curriculum fully, both in the classroom, as part of smallerintervention groups and also during exams. This will involve liaising closelywith subject teachers. Most of thestudents will be on the Special Educational Needs Register and will have a widerange of profiles. You will need to be good humoured, resilient and enjoyworking with young people aged 13-18.

This post provides the opportunity to accompany students on educationalvisits and to play a full part in the extra-curricular life of the school. Inaddition, as part of our commitment to personal and professional development,postholders will participate in a weekly training programme alongside teachersand classroom-based support staff.
