Job summary

Stafflex is recruiting for a College in Huddersfield to hire a College Student Support & Safety Officer. The role focuses on building rapport with students aged 16+, maintaining a calm presence and de-escalating conflicts, with additional site safety duties including CCTV monitoring and access control.

You will work Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm on a temporary basis with a view to permanent contract after a 12-week probation, and DBS checks are required.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people aged 16+ or strong experience in another public-facing role
• Confident communication and ability to de-escalate conflict
• Empathy and understanding of student challenges (personal, learning or mental health)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic IT skills and safeguarding commitment

Responsibilities

• Be a friendly, approachable presence around the college.
• Speak with students respectfully and respond calmly to challenging behaviour or conflict.
• Work with college staff to raise concerns and help resolve issues.
• Monitor CCTV and remain alert to safety or security risks.
• Assist with access control, securing buildings and other site duties.
• Keep clear records and use college IT systems as needed.
