Job summary

TimePlan Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work in Harrow-based primary schools, providing one-to-one support for pupils with a range of SEN needs. The role emphasizes phonics and early reading interventions, with close collaboration with teachers and SENDCos to implement individual education plans.

Ideal candidates will have strong 1:1 SEN experience, robust phonics knowledge, and the ability to adapt lessons to individual learning styles while building positive

Qualifications

  • Experience providing 1:1 support for pupils with SEN in a school setting.
  • Experience supporting children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs.
  • Strong phonics knowledge and ability to support early reading with phonics programmes.
  • Ability to adapt learning to meet individual needs and learning styles.
  • Build positive relationships while maintaining high expectations for behaviour and learning.
  • Hold (or obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with additional learning, communication, or behavioural needs.
  • Deliver personalised interventions, including phonics and literacy support, to help pupils make measurable progress.
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENDCos to implement IEPs and behaviour strategies.
  • Support pupils in developing confidence, independence, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Promote an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive.
  • Record progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

We're looking for SEN Teaching Assistants who:
  • Have extensive experience providing 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs in a school setting.
  • Have experience supporting children with a range of needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties.
  • Have strong phonics knowledge and experience, with the confidence to support early reading using recognised phonics programmes and reinforce literacy skills through targeted interventions.
  • Can confidently adapt learning to meet individual needs and learning styles.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining high expectations for behaviour and learning.
  • Are calm, patient, adaptable, and resilient when managing challenging situations.
  • Work effectively as part of a wider school team and communicate confidently with teachers and SEND professionals.
  • Hold (or are willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
