Job summary

Wigan Council is seeking a Streetscene Operative to keep streets, parks and public spaces clean, safe and vibrant across the borough. The role is hands-on, part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality cleaning and grounds maintenance.

You will operate machinery, support fly-tip clean-ups, and contribute to a cleaner, greener Wigan. Training will be provided to gain herbicide application and play area inspection qualifications.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in Streetscene or similar role and can operate range of machinery and tools.
• You work well with others, communicate clearly, and stay flexible to meet service demands.
• You’re organised, safety-conscious, and ready to gain herbicide application and play area inspection qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate pavement sweepers and carry out cleaning and grounds maintenance across the borough.
• Inspect play areas and support fly-tipping clean-ups.
• Cut grass and prune shrubs to keep public spaces tidy and safe.
• Be the Council’s eyes and ears, spotting issues early and helping resolve them quickly.
