Wigan Council is seeking a Streetscene Operative to keep streets, parks and public spaces clean, safe and vibrant across the borough. The role is hands-on, part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality cleaning and grounds maintenance.
You will operate machinery, support fly-tip clean-ups, and contribute to a cleaner, greener Wigan. Training will be provided to gain herbicide application and play area inspection qualifications.

Salary: Grade 4, £26,427 - £27,709 per annum. £13.69 - £14.36 per hour

In this hands-on role, you’ll be part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality cleaning and grounds maintenance across the borough. From operating pavement sweepers, inspecting play areas, supporting fly-tipping clean-ups, cutting grass and pruning shrubs, your work will help create a better environment for everyone.
As the Council’s “eyes and ears,” you’ll be out in the community, spotting issues early and helping resolve them quickly.
Are you someone who takes pride in making a difference? We are looking for someone interested in keeping public spaces clean, supporting a team and helping the community feel safe and welcome.
Whether you have hands-on experience in a Streetscene or similar role and can confidently operate a range of machinery and tools. You work well with others, communicate clearly, and stay flexible to meet service demands.
You’re organised, safety-conscious, and ready to gain qualifications like herbicide application and play area inspections.
