Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Street Lighting Ganger to lead a team from the Oldbury depot. The role focuses on installing, maintaining and repairing street lighting and associated electrical infrastructure across the borough, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

You will supervise operatives, coordinate daily workloads, and provide technical guidance while supporting service delivery targets and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Level 3 electrotechnical qualification or equivalent.
• Experience in installation, maintenance, fault finding and repair of street lighting and electrical equipment.
• Experience leading/supervising street lighting teams.
• Knowledge of electrical installation principles and best practice.
• Full driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of Street Lighting Operatives, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Install, maintain, repair and replace street lighting columns and associated equipment.
• Coordinate daily workloads, resources, vehicles, plant and materials to meet targets.
• Provide technical advice and support on street lighting work.
• Perform electrical inspection, testing and fault finding with specialist equipment.
• Drive and operate specialist vehicles and plant, including hydraulic platforms and crane vehicles.
• Implement temporary traffic management and related arrangements.
• Respond to emergency callouts and secure hazardous sites.
• Maintain records, inventories and work management information.
• Build relationships with colleagues, contractors, authorities and the public.
