Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group is seeking a Development Underwriter for a hybrid, field-based role in the South of England. The position combines broker visits with home working and office time, and focuses on driving regional growth through strong broker partnerships and technical underwriting expertise.

You will be central to expanding the portfolio, delivering against financial targets, and supporting colleagues with underwriting insight.

Qualifications

• Proven relationship management experience with brokers and stakeholders, with the ability to promote propositions and influence decisions effectively.
• Demonstrable capability managing a book of business, delivering financial targets and contributing to growth strategy.
• Decisive underwriting approach backed by sound commercial judgement and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Drive new business and portfolio expansion across the South through proactive broker engagement, tactical trading and targeted business development activity.
• Profitably underwrite commercial risks aligned to SME markets, operating with strong technical judgement and commercial focus.
• Build and maintain trusted long-term partnerships with regional and strategic brokers, influencing positive outcomes and strengthening the company’s competitive position.
• Manage a portfolio of accounts with accountability for financial targets, retention rates and shaping future growth plans.
