Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited is seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to provide specialist expertise in maintenance planning, forecasting, modelling and data governance. You will develop long-term maintenance strategies, optimise resources and support bid submissions across UK operations.

You will work with Operations, Projects, Procurement and Data teams to ensure plans are strategically aligned, operationally achievable and commercially robust.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering or maintenance planning within a complex operational environment.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including modelling and dynamic functionality.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities with the ability to turn data into actionable plans.
• Hands-on engineering experience to support fleet improvement strategies.
• Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders across disciplines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Collaborative approach and stakeholder engagement skills.
• HNC/HND or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning tools development and maintenance, including maintenance plans and forecasts.
• Develop and implement heavy maintenance strategies across fleets.
• Identify opportunities to optimise labour, materials, maintenance intervals and locations.
• Create scenario-based planning models for competitive bid submissions.
• Collaborate with Projects, Operations and Procurement to ensure robust plans.
• Validate planning data within Maintenance Management Systems and maintain data integrity.
• Support continuous improvement of planning processes and use of new tools.
