Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a Senior Community Safety Manager – Thematic to lead strategic direction within the Community Safety Team in Birmingham. You will drive partnership working and deliver outcomes that improve safety and wellbeing for residents.

The role requires significant experience in community safety or public protection, with a track record of developing and delivering complex strategies, leading teams, and collaborating with senior stakeholders and multi-agency partners.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading community safety/public protection in complex partnerships.
• Proven track record delivering strategies, policies, and large programmes.
• Experience managing commissioning budgets, procurement, and funding streams.
• Ability to influence senior leaders, elected members and partner organisations.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management at a strategic level.
• Excellent analytical skills using data to drive decisions and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic direction and governance of the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership.
• Drive delivery of thematic priorities using evidence-based approaches.
• Ensure compliance with Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and other key legislation.
• Develop and implement community safety strategies, policies, and long-term plans.
• Produce the Strategic Needs Assessment and ensure data-led decision making.
• Oversee performance and financial frameworks to monitor impact.
• Lead statutory reviews and drive continuous service improvement.
• Manage commissioning, procurement, and external funding opportunities.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders and partnership boards.
• Represent the Council at forums including scrutiny committees and partnerships.
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team to foster high performance.
