Job summary

Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services, a leading facilities management company, is seeking a Store Detective to operate across Erdington and surrounding stores. You will apply keen observation to prevent theft and support the safety of customers and colleagues.

Requires valid SIA licence, UK driving licence with access to own vehicle, and strong customer-service skills. You will report incidents, liaise with police, and may attend court. The role offers training and progression within Mitie.

Qualifications

• Valid SIA licence.
• Full UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.
• Highly adaptable, with the ability to work confidently across regional stores.
• Calm under pressure and able to react quickly in challenging situations.
• Customer-facing experience with a strong customer service background.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, preferably with GCSE or equivalent in English.
• Proactive, forward-thinking and keen to improve working practices.
• Self‑motivated, positive and able to demonstrate a genuine can‑do attitude.
• Strong observational skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations and make quick decisions.
• Confidence to challenge people when necessary.
• Ability to use modern surveillance systems such as CCTV.

Responsibilities

• Observe, deter and arrest those taking part in criminal activity.
• Issue civil recovery where applicable.
• Liaise with police forces and other crime prevention partners to keep up to date with crime trends.
• Build a local network to identify and disrupt crime.
• Report incidents accurately and in a timely fashion.
• Occasionally attend court to provide evidence.
