Job summary

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking a Band 3 Sterile Services operative for an 8‑month fixed-term maternity cover. The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, with rotating early, late, and weekend shifts to support theatres and wards.

The post involves cleaning, decontamination and sterilisation of re-usable surgical instruments in a fast-paced NHS environment. ISO13485 accreditation and patient safety are core priorities.

Qualifications

• GCSEs/O Levels or equivalent.
• Decontamination NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Full or part member of IDSc/CSC.
• Experience in NHS environment desirable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all products from Sterile Services are fit for purpose and produced in a timely, efficient manner per the QMS.
• Work with management to meet department production needs and follow work instructions.
• Comply with local policies and procedures.
• Check equipment presence and condition; report discrepancies.
• Wash and decontaminate instruments according to policy; ensure traceability.
• Repack and prepare instrument sets for theatres and other departments.
• Ensure packs are identified using barcode traceability system.
• Sterilize instrument packs using dual-temperature steam autoclaves and other equipment.
