Job summary

18 Week Support is recruiting a Sterile Services Technician to support a busy NHS Trust in the South West with weekend sessions. You will clean, decontaminate and sterilise instruments, assemble sets and maintain accurate records in a patient‑focussed environment.

Experience in post‑anaesthetic or perioperative care, registration with HCPC, and NHS exposure are highly valued. You will work within a multidisciplinary theatre team, adhering to infection prevention standards and quality controls.

Qualifications

• Registered with HCPC and currently valid.
• Minimum 6 months recent experience in a surgical setting within last 12 months.
• Proven NHS experience.
• Experience in surgical wards or theatre environments preferred.
• Strong clinical, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Collect used surgical instruments and medical devices from clinical areas.
• Clean and decontaminate equipment using manual and automated processes.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and functionality.
• Assemble and package surgical instrument sets according to specifications.
• Sterilise instruments using steam sterilisers (autoclaves) or other approved methods.
• Label and track instrument sets using barcode or traceability systems.
• Store sterile equipment correctly and distribute it to operating theatres, wards, and clinics.
• Maintain accurate records to comply with quality standards and regulations.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
• Report damaged equipment and arrange repairs or replacement when necessary.
