Wm. Stephen (Bakers) Ltd. in Scotland is seeking a Logistics Manager to lead the logistics function, build capability and embed standards across the team.

This hands-on leadership role requires being close to the operation while delivering reliable customer service and continuous improvement. You will lead planning, fleet and safety, establish KPIs, recruit and develop staff, and work across production and despatch to remove bottlenecks.

Purpose of Role

The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Logistics function, ensuring the team is structured, capable and supported to consistently deliver excellent service to our customers.The role exists to strengthen the Logistics Team by improving retention, building capability, embedding a strong training culture and creating clear standards, accountability and ways of working.This is a hands‑on leadership role, requiring the Manager to be close to the team and operation while building the capability and structure needed for long‑term success.

Core Accountabilities

1. People Leadership, Retention & Capability

Key responsibilities:

• Lead, coach and develop the Logistics leadership team and wider Driving Team.
• Improve retention by understanding and addressing the key factors affecting engagement and turnover.
• Set clear expectations, standards and accountability across the team.
• Embed effective recruitment, onboarding, training and development processes.
• Role‑model Stephens' values and build a positive, accountable team culture where our values are understood and demonstrated in how people work together every day.

2. Customer Service & Logistics Performance

Key responsibilities:

• Own overall delivery performance and customer service outcomes.
• Establish clear KPIs and use them to understand and improve performance.
• Ensure recurring performance issues are identified and addressed at their root cause.
• Work with the Logistics Supervisor to ensure consistent execution of the daily operation.
• Work cross-functionally to resolve issues impacting delivery performance and customer service.

3. Resource, Rota & Route Planning

Key responsibilities:

• Own the overall approach to rotas, holidays and resource planning.
• Ensure appropriate staffing and cover is in place to meet operational requirements.
• Lead route planning and optimisation as business requirements change.
• Identify future resource and delivery capacity requirements.
• Build resilience into the operation and reduce over‑reliance on individual people.

4. Fleet, Safety & Compliance

Key responsibilities:

• Maintain overall accountability for fleet condition, readiness and standards.
• Ensure effective vehicle safety checks, defect reporting and follow‑up processes are in place.
• Ensure relevant transport, health & safety and operational requirements are consistently followed.
• Identify recurring fleet issues and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
• Build a strong culture of safety, care and accountability across the team.

5. Standardisation & Continuous Improvement

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and embed clear standard ways of working across Logistics.
• Establish regular team meetings to raise, prioritise and resolve issues, with clear ownership and follow‑through.
• Ensure effective team communication so drivers are regularly kept informed of operational changes, priorities and relevant company updates.
• Lead improvement projects and ensure changes are embedded and sustained.
• Work across Production, Despatch and other functions to remove operational bottlenecks and continually improve how we operate.

Working pattern:

39 hours per week across a seven-day operation, with a typical 2:30am start.The core pattern is expected to include Saturday working, with approximately one Sunday per month, alongside flexibility to support holidays and operational requirements.
