Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the system engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical elements of SISS within a rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

• Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
• Potentially lead in creating new product or service ideas and drafting plans for new designs.
• Manage ideas from initial design to production and installation.
• Create detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
• Use mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
• Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
• Calculate accurate cost analysis forecasts.
• Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
• Ensure quality-control tests and oversee construction, development, and deployment processes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of professional engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
• Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Develop personal engineering skills continually.
• Solve complex problems with innovative perspectives.
• Work independently with minimal guidance.
• Lead projects or project phases and mentor less experienced colleagues.
• Comply with QEHS requirements.

Skill Requirements

• Previous technical SISS experience, including engineering, design, and survey skills.
• Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
• Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD software.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively and with stakeholders.
• Passion for problem-solving and providing effective solutions.
• Strong analytical skills and process visualization ability.
