Job summary

Preply is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to provide technical leadership across the Platform Tribe. You will guide architecture decisions, establish engineering standards, and create reusable patterns that reduce cognitive load and raise quality.

Qualifications

• Strong track record as a senior technical leader delivering cross-team impact.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-traffic distributed systems.
• Deep experience with DevOps and cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• Experience with CI/CD systems, build/test reliability, artifact management, and developer workflows.
• Foundations in reliability engineering: observability, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, automation-driven prevention.
• Excellent communication and technical influence across teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across platform squads: architecture decisions, engineering standards, paved paths, and reusable patterns.
• Lead cross-squad and cross-engineering initiatives to improve code-to-production delivery, CI foundations, and self-service entry points.
• Drive operability improvements: SLO thinking, dashboards, alerting standards, runbooks, failure recovery patterns, incident readiness across platform-owned systems.
• Go deep on high-impact reliability and performance problems: root cause analysis and remediation design.
• Build and operate platform services and tooling serving production traffic with strong quality and operational discipline.
• Mentor engineers and tech leads to raise design quality and execution standards across the tribe.
• Use data to guide priorities, and help teams turn metrics into durable improvements.
• Participate in on-call and incident response, improving incident execution and prevention over time.
