Job summary

Pleo is hiring a Staff Engineer for the Business Spend segment in the United Kingdom. You’ll own architecture, drive supplier data migrations, and improve payment reliability while aligning multiple teams across product and design.

The role leverages AWS, Kotlin, Java, TypeScript, Kafka, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, and modern observability tools. You’ll collaborate with Engineering Managers and have impact across vendors and invoicing processes, shaping how suppliers are modeled in a scalable,

Qualifications

• Strong verbal communication and cross-country collaboration.
• Technical lead with teams across time zones and async/written communication.
• Deep backend experience in Java/Kotlin/TypeScript at production scale.
• Experience migrating legacy systems and migrating data.
• Ability to influence across teams without direct authority.
• Documentation: design docs, decision records, migration plans that are actionable.
• Background in payments/fintech or B2B SaaS.
• Experience with event-driven systems and Kafka and observability.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the Business Spend module and its integrations.
• Lead supplier data migration from legacy to dedicated services with minimal downtime.
• Improve reliability of invoice payment flows and reduce failed payments.
• Transform the vendor data model so it is consistent across cards, invoices, and accounting.
• Help three teams make consistent technical decisions via docs, reviews and architecture forums.
• Elevate teammates through pairing, code reviews, and clear, timezone-friendly documentation.
