Job summary

tem is hiring a Senior Staff Engineer for the Payments squad within Saldo, its Billing and Payments Service. This hands-on leadership role will set the technical direction, write design docs, review code, and drive the squad toward scalable, cost-efficient payment processing.

You will coach junior engineers, own the delivery standards, and balance speed, quality, and resilience while reducing cost-to-process as the platform scales.

Qualifications

• Experience owning the outcome of a squad's delivery and the standards it works to.
• Proven ability to write design docs, review PRs/ADRs, and solve problems hands-on while setting direction.
• Balance hands-on work on the biggest technical challenges with coaching junior engineers.
• Experience designing a team's ways of working from scratch, balancing speed, quality and resilience.
• Experience owning cross-team sequencing and dependencies, and diagnosing throughput problems.
• Deep experience with Python (FastAPI) and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks; tech-agnostic when needed.
• Payments industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the squad's delivery and the standards it works to; ensure the team ships quality work.
• Write specs and design docs; review ADRs and PRs; solve problems hands-on.
• Define the payments architecture direction and create a clear technical strategy.
• Cut the cost-to-process by driving payment accuracy and processing efficiency.
• Design how the squad works; set the operating model and pace.
• Own sequencing and dependencies; diagnose throughput and visibility issues.
• Build a high-performance team by coaching juniors and aligning on what good looks like.
• Partner on people decisions; flag promotions and hiring gaps with your manager.
