Pleo is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own the data-serving boundary between raw product data and consumers, including internal dashboards and third-party tools. You’ll build APIs, ensure low latency, and collaborate with Data & AI teams.

You'll work with Kotlin-based services, Postgres, Kafka, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), focusing on reliability, SLOs, and secure data access in a fintech environment. Hybrid/remote options in the UK are available.

Qualifikationen

• Strong backend engineering experience building and owning reporting and analytics API services and serving-layer infrastructure.
• A mindset focusing on reliability, latency, and SLOs.
• Experience owning API boundary layers including clean endpoint design, versioning, contract stability, and ensuring downstream consumers are never exposed to raw data sources.
• Strong expertise designing performant read-heavy systems, including relational database optimisation, indexing strategies, materialised views, caching, and API performance tuning.
• Solid database fundamentals (SQL and non-SQL) and strong SQL querying skills, plus deep Kafka expertise.

Aufgaben

• Own the Data API boundary and endpoints for internal dashboards, customer-facing features, and third-party tools.
• Design read models, indexing, and caching for low-latency queries in Postgres and future OLAP stores.
• Integrate with Kotlin-based product backend services to surface correct data for features.
• Ensure reliability and performance with monitoring, incident response, and SLOs.
• Define contracts between ingestion/aggregation layer and serving DB; align read patterns with schemas.
