Job summary

AI Company in the United Kingdom is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the architecture of core backend services for a high-throughput AI platform. You will shape technical direction across engineering, mentor senior engineers, and drive scalable, reliable systems at scale.

The role requires deep backend expertise (Go or similar), distributed systems know-how, and a track record of leading cross-team initiatives.

Qualifications

Significant experience building and running production backend systems at scale.
Strong expertise in Go or another modern backend language.
Deep knowledge of distributed systems, concurrency, APIs, databases and cloud infrastructure.
Hands-on experience with high-throughput, low-latency, highly reliable systems.
A track record leading technical initiatives across multiple teams.
Excellent system design skills and sound architectural judgement.

Responsibilities

Architecting and evolving the distributed backend systems at the core of the platform.
Leading complex, cross-team initiatives from design through to production.
Pushing scalability, reliability, performance and security further as volumes grow.
Defining the engineering standards and architectural patterns others build on.
Shaping long-term technical strategy alongside product and engineering leadership.
Mentoring senior engineers and developing the company’s future technical leaders.
