Job summary

John Lewis Partnership is seeking a Staff Engineer specializing in Android development to lead and shape the architecture of customer‑facing projects. You will collaborate with Android and iOS engineers, QA, design, and UX to deliver high‑quality mobile experiences across platforms.

This hybrid role requires working from home in the UK and visiting London or Bracknell offices, with occasional travel to other locations as needed.

Qualifications

Extensive experience in native Android development with Kotlin and Java.
Experience with accessibility best practices.
Strong CI/CD and automated testing mindset.
Familiarity with generative AI tools to boost productivity.
Proficiency in Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
Demonstrable TDD and pair programming experience.
Experience with Agile methods (Scrum/Kanban).
Hands-on REST API development or consumption.
Deep understanding of MVVM/MVP architectures.
Significant experience leading teams or technical decisions.

Responsibilities

Own development approach and provide technical assurance on complex IT projects.
Collaborate with Android and iOS teams, BAs, QEs, designers, and UX specialists.
Support shaping of new projects and mentor junior engineers.
Communicate clearly with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Continuously learn and apply new technologies to improve engineering practices.
