Job description

We wish to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Renal Medicine for 6 months. There is a possibility that this post may be extended. The post is neither Royal College nor Postgraduate approved for training, but is educationally sound and well supported, with excellent opportunities for gaining clinical experience in Renal Medicine.

Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. Some prior experience in renal medicine is also required.

Clinical duties will rotate through periods of inpatient ward duties, daytime emergency duties as the on‑call bleep holder, outpatient clinics (including transplantation, dialysis, general and sub‑specialty nephrology and satellite clinics) and procedures. Training and experience will be gained in all aspects of renal medicine commensurate with a large renal unit providing tertiary level care. There is currently a complex hybrid on‑call rota with 12 slots covering renal medicine only. There are occasional blocks of resident night shifts.

The Renal department at NBT is dynamic with a significant focus on sustainable patient care. We are a flexible team that work together to ensure the patients receive the best quality of care possible. It is a unit with 19 Consultant Nephrologists, 6 transplant surgeons, 6 specialist renal trainees, 2 academic clinical fellows, 2 academic clinical lecturers, 3 IMT stage 1 medicine trainees, 3 Foundation Year 2 trainees and 2 Foundation Year 1 trainees and 3–4 locally employed clinical fellows working at renal registrars.
