Job summary

King’s College School Wimbledon is seeking a proactive grounds assistant to join a six-strong team, based across the main site and Kingsway. The role is 40 hours per week, core hours 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday, with some Saturdays and paid overtime when needed.

You will help prepare and maintain pitches and artificial surfaces, support matches, and follow maintenance programmes. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a groundsperson or similar
• Good understanding of field markings
• Experience of mechanical repairs and ability to mend machinery
• Knowledge and experience of working with synthetic sports pitches/surfaces
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work
• Ability to work without supervision and prioritise workload according to fixture lists and weather conditions
• Driving licence desirable
• NVQ Turf Management desirable

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sports facilities, including artificial surfaces, at the main site and Kingsway to national standards
• Provide grounds staff support to matches/fixtures when required
• Implement weekly, monthly and annual maintenance programmes for all facilities
• Liaise with staff on availability of facilities for lessons and matches
• Work with machinery to prepare and maintain football, rugby, cricket and hockey pitches
• Undertake general maintenance of equipment as directed
• Assist with light tree pruning, hedge cutting and path maintenance
• Report problems on the ticketing system
• Attend meetings and events
• Undertake other duties as directed by the head groundsperson
