Job summary

Allelys is seeking a highly skilled SPMT operator to safely operate and support the deployment of Goldhofer SPMTs across projects in the UK. You will work on-site, perform maintenance and preparation of the SPMT fleet, and assist the workshop as required.

The role requires proven heavy-lift operations experience, CPCS/CSCS/NPORS qualifications, a full UK driving licence and RAMS compliance. Rigorous safety standards and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience operating Goldhofer SPMTs is essential.

Responsibilities

The Role

To safely operate, maintain and support the deployment of Goldhofer Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) and associated equipment across Allelys’ projects.

SPMTs are utilised by Allelys to transport heavy, abnormal and indivisible loads, supporting clients across the heavy engineering and construction sectors. The role combines the safe and efficient on-site operation of SPMTs with general yard duties specific to the maintenance, preparation and upkeep of the SPMT fleet and associated equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate Goldhofer SPMTs and PST/SL-E modular trailers to self-load, unload, transport and manoeuvre heavy, abnormal and indivisible loads with millimetre precision at project locations.
• Configure, couple and decouple SPMT modules in accordance with project-specific configurations detailed within RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), Safe Systems of Work and Lift Plans.
• Load and unload SPMTs, PPUs and associated equipment at the Allelys Studley yard, while supporting the workshop team with the maintenance, preparation and upkeep of the SPMT fleet and associated equipment.
• Set up Power Pack Units (PPUs), hydraulic suspension circuits and steering systems in accordance with approved transportation arrangement drawings.
• Carry out daily pre-use, in-service and post-use inspections of SPMTs, PPUs and associated lifting equipment and accessories, ensuring equipment remains safe and fit for purpose.
• Promptly report equipment malfunctions, damage, defects, near misses, incidents and accidents to the Site Supervisor and/or line management.
• Work in accordance with project-specific RAMS, including defined stability criteria, load distribution and lashing arrangements.
• Comply fully with customer-specific site safety requirements and maintain a high standard of health, safety and environmental awareness at all times.
• Represent Allelys professionally and responsibly at all times, maintaining positive working relationships and demonstrating a respectful and safety-focused approach.

Skills and qualifications

• Have proven experience operating Goldhofer SPMTs; this is essential.
• Hold manufacturer-specific training from Goldhofer.
• Have previous experience in heavy-lift, abnormal load or project cargo operations.
• Have a sound understanding of load distribution, ground-bearing pressure and stability principles.
• Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work in accordance with project RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements) and instructions from the Allelys Site Supervisor or Project Manager.
• Be able to identify hydraulic, electrical and structural issues affecting SPMTs and PPUs.
• Demonstrate resilience and the ability to work effectively under pressure, often within tight project windows and customer deadlines.
• Be willing to work away from the Allelys Studley yard, including for extended periods where required by project demands.
• Hold a full, current and clean UK driving licence.
• Hold relevant CPCS, CSCS or NPORS cards for heavy transport and heavy-lift operations.
• Hold relevant Slinger/Signaller and Lift Supervisor qualifications.
• Hold valid SSSTS certification (desirable).
