Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a specialist SEND school in Chelmsford, Essex, seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a dedicated team. You will support children aged 3-19 with SLD, PMLD and autism, providing 1:1 and small-group assistance across academic, physical and communication development.

You will work closely with teachers and therapists, using tailored activities and assistive communication tools to promote inclusion, safety and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children and young people with SEND (SLD/PMLD) is essential.
• Willingness to provide personal care and support pupils with complex needs.
• Ability to support non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism and complex needs.
• Assist teachers with differentiated, sensory-based learning activities.
• Support students with communication difficulties using PECS, Makaton or AAC where appropriate.
• Deliver personal care (toileting, feeding, routines) respectfully and safely.
• Assist with moving and handling and use of specialist equipment where trained.
• Support pupils to develop independence and daily living skills.
