Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a well-established SEND school in Benfleet, Essex, seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to support pupils aged 3–19 with SLD, PMLD, ASD and complex needs.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, assist with learning activities, and help with personal care and communication methods such as PECS and Makaton.

This temporary/long-term role offers a competitive daily rate and a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND, including SLD or PMLD.
• Willingness to provide personal care to pupils with additional needs.
• Experience supporting non-verbal pupils and using alternative communication methods.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or AAC devices is desirable.
• Understanding of sensory needs and strategies for complex learning difficulties.
• Willingness to undertake moving and handling training.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND.
• Assist with academic, physical, emotional and social development.
• Deliver differentiated, sensory-based learning activities.
• Support non-verbal pupils using PECS, Makaton or AAC as appropriate.
• Provide personal care support and maintain pupils' dignity.
• Assist with mobility and safe handling where trained.
• Support EHCP targets and monitor progress.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and other staff.
