Job summary

Wakefield Council is seeking motivated individuals to work across nurseries, PVI settings and with childminders as Early Years SEN advisory staff. You will support pupils with SEN, model practice, and undertake observations and assessments to inform the graduated response to SEND.

Candidates will provide specialist advice to pupils, families and schools, work with other SEN central staff, and help ensure inclusion across mainstream and resource settings for children with EHCPs.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ASD/Social communication, social emotional mental health and learning support.
  • Ability to provide specialist support and advice to pupils, schools and families.
  • Willingness to engage in safeguarding duties and participate in training.

Job description

Successful candidates will work across maintained nurserys, PVI settings, and with childminders to the Early Yers SEN advisory teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity support inclusive practices for pupils with SEN. Specialist learning support officers undertaking the outreach role will be asked to run groups, modelling good practice, undertake pupil observations and assessments that contribute towards the graduated response to SEND. In addition this may include support to resource provisions, who educate pupils with an EHCP within the Early Years age range. We are looking for motivated individual who can provide excellent support to students with a wide range of needs, advising and guiding settings across Wakefield. This may be delivering learning/interventions to groups/individuals with complex needs. This may be supporting pupils to access mainstream lessons. You will work with other SEN central staff and specialist teachers to support children with complex SEN to access play and leanring either in the resource base or in mainstream environments. We are looking for candidates with knowledge and experiences of:

  • Pupils with identified needs of ASD/Social communication, Social emotional mental health, Learning support.
  • The ability to complement the professional work of teachers in the service, taking responsibility for agreed learning activities, under an agreed system of supervision.
  • The ability to provide specialist support and advice to pupils, schools, families and other agencies with respect to children and young people with additional needs.
  • Who can be responsible for the management and development of agreed specialist interventions under guidance and/or management of other non-specialist support staff including assistance with monitoring of work, appraisal and training.
  • Who can promote and support the achievement of all children through work with officers, agencies, schools, families and pupils where support is required to ensure inclusion of needs.
  • Who can participate as a team member in the operation, promotion, evaluation and development of the service.
